Here’s another one for the primehammer folks intro series! After Ivan and David V., today we are talking to Iván (yes, same name, but opposite part of the globe). Iván has joined primehammer from Colombia, and is an excellent example of how primehammer’s company culture creates amazing connections and collaborations even across continents.
The beginning: a LinkedIn message
What’s your position in primehammer?
I am a backend engineer, and I mostly work with Python. Right now, I am working on a project in the education field.
How did you first cross paths with primehammer?
Vía LinkedIn. Daniel Štarha contacted me, and we started talking there. Before then, I hadn’t had the chance of hearing about primehammer, but since that moment, I started learning little by little about the company and their projects.
Why primehammer: closeness across the globe
What convinced you to stick with primehammer?
From the start, I really liked the closeness and friendliness of the treatment. The company is very approachable, and this leads to relaxed and friendly conversation. I felt like I was talking to people I’d known for a long time, despite the obvious differences in geography, time zones, and languages. Once I had the opportunity to move on to other stages of the process, I was able to speak with an engineer who holds the same role as I in the company, and he shared his experience in primehammer with me, which made me feel much more motivated.
What is your favorite thing about primehammer?
It’s a company where what you do and contribute truly counts, where you are heard and valued. It’s easy to forget that most of them live on the other side of the world, since everyone has such a warm and friendly attitude. They’re always looking for ways to make you feel at home and share space.
The challenges beyond geography
What’s the biggest challenge you have worked on?
I’ve always considered the type of work I do challenging for many reasons: you have to learn the business logic of projects in various fields (healthcare, education, finance, etc.) for which you aren’t formally trained, and then use all your ingenuity to create or improve a product based on it. You also need to have strong soft skills and be a good team player.

I particularly remember the first time I had the opportunity to work on a project in the USA, my first experience working on a project entirely in English and with an international team. It was especially challenging because I had to take a leap of faith and trust my abilities in a completely new context. However, today I feel grateful to have had that opportunity for growth and learning.
Iván’s brainfood
How do you like to spend your free time?
I have many hobbies: I love reading, watching movies and TV shows, listening to podcasts (anything that tells a story), walking, and spending time outdoors. I try to exercise daily. I like drawing. I try to learn new things; right now, I’m studying to become an audiobook narrator.
