10 years ago vs today: How AI changed everyday life

AI went from sci-fi to “what should I make for dinner?” surprisingly fast. Somewhere along the way, it also became our search engine, editor, tutor, therapist, and general-purpose “please figure this out for me” button. Here’s what everyday life looked like before and after we started asking AI for basically everything.

How can AI overthink for you today?

1. Finding information

THEN:
Google search:

“How to remove stain from shirt”

Open 12 blog posts.
Close 11 because of pop-ups.
Read the last one.

Still ruined the shirt.

NOW:
“AI, how do I remove a coffee stain from a white shirt?”

AI:

“Try cold water, dish soap, and avoid heat.”

Problem solved in 10 seconds.

Still ruined the shirt.

2. Writing emails

THEN:
Spent 45 minutes writing:

“Dear Sir,
Hope this email finds you well…”

Read it 9 times.
Still accidentally sent “Warm retards.”

NOW:
“AI, write a professional but friendly email declining a meeting while sounding productive.”
AI delivers a Harvard-level diplomatic statement in 2 seconds.

ALTERNATIVE: You still reply: “Can’t come, good luck tho.”

3. Learning something new

THEN:
Want to learn a new skill.

Buy a book.
Watch tutorials.
Read forums.
Spend weeks figuring things out.

NOW:
“AI, teach me this in 5 minutes.”

AI creates a personalized course, examples, exercises, and a quiz.

You spend the saved time watching tons of reels.

4. Cooking dinner

THEN:
Open fridge.
Find pasta, peanut butter, soy sauce, frozen peas, and a banana.
Wonder if sleep counts as dinner.

NOW:
“AI, I have pasta, peanut butter, soy sauce, frozen peas, and a banana.”

AI:
“I suggest an Asian-inspired peanut noodle dish with a playful fruit-forward twist.”

Me:
“You put banana in pasta?”

AI:
“I said playful.” 😄

5. Choosing a movie

THEN:
Scroll Netflix for 45 minutes.
Watch three trailers.
Read two IMDb reviews.
Still can’t decide.
End up watching the same episode of The Office again.

NOW:
“AI, suggest a movie based on my mood, watch history, and the rainy weather.”

AI gives you the perfect recommendation.

You say:
“Wow, great choice.”

Then watch the same episode of The Office again.

6. Writing this article

THEN:

We had to write it ourselves.

Or pay someone to do it.

NOW:

We asked AI.

AI wrote most of it.

So, what’s next?

If this is how much AI changed everyday life in just 10 years, it’s probably worth wondering what the next 10 will look like. AI will certainly do much more for us. Whether we’ll use all that saved time for something more productive is another question.
